The good: REMNANT.exe crafts a journey of an EP in "Valence Shell", a project that flows together wonderfully in all components. The atmospheres are impeccable, the drum n bass is consistent and seamlessly woven in with non-DnB sections, the leads are all distinct and yet I wouldn't bat an eyelid if they meshed together in any track. "Valence Shell" is a unified, well-put-together experience, something you don't often get in an EP, not of this quality.
The bad: With very little memorability factor, many of these tracks tend to blend in together. Whilst the EP thrives as a holistic project, these individual tracks mostly don't quite strike a chord by themselves.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
VALENCE SHELL | Minimalistic liquid DnB, has some pretty neat low leads and progression but does drag on a little | Atmospheric |
MODIFY | Thick, chunky lead and a slower tempo pairs well with a more neuro-styled second movement | Standout |
REVOLUTION | The prominent lead is pretty nice and almost euphoric at times, and it works well with the dynamicism of the track | Switchup |
FUTURE PERFECT | Clean drum n bass tune, doesn't do much as a track in itself, but is a reasonably nice fit in this EP | Atmospheric |
OMNISCIENCE | The leads on this one are a little strained — nifty sound design — and the vocal chops work very well too | Standout |
RELEASE | Some clean breaks and sound design paired with some very nice atmospheres — again doesn't do much, but fits well | Atmospheric |
