Beginner-friendly? no (?)
After a fairly serviceable sophomore LP back in 2024, No Mana comes in hard and fast for his early 2025 "Odyssey Soundsystem" EP on Monstercat.
The good: "Odyssey Soundsystem" sees him put the pedal to the metal and turn up the tempo for some very creative tunes. Whilst they aren't necessarily all my jam, I simply cannot deny the creative prowess on display here, from the darkstep DnB "Forget About Us" to a couple of trance cuts and a hard dance finale, and No Mana delivers a much-needed stylistic switchup in a fiery manner, showing us he's so much more than just a house artist.
The bad: Still, some of these tracks weren't really my jam. That's mostly what it comes down to, really — perhaps they were a little repetitive, perhaps the attempted style just isn't my thing, perhaps it's something else, but No Mana barely falls short of brilliance on that rather plaintive note.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Odyssey Soundsystem | Intriguing, almost sci-fi vocal sample, with offbeat trance production that quite frankly goes rather hard | Standout |
Forget About Us | The vocal is decent but the main highlight for me is this crazy distorted DnB production with immense basslines and tons of flair | Intense |
Losing Focus | Love Bertie's vocal as always and the lead is classy but it does drag on a little without much dynamicism | Emotive |
Phase 4 | Minimal hard dance tune with massive stomping kicks and a couple of nice bridges, though it doesn't do much | Heavy |
