Hex Cougar spearheads the hybrid trap 2025 takeover with his "Embody" EP, a five-shot rifle with an unexpected amount of power behind it.

The good: With a big focus on big, driving leads that push through the track's soundscapes, "Embody" is certainly memorable and impactful. Whether it's the heavier, bassier mixes of "Eyes" and "Dream Of U", or the more emotive and melodic cuts like "Still In Love" or "Ultra", Hex Cougar is consistent in his delivery of quality hybrid trap.

The bad: Aside from "Oxytocin" being the ugly duckling for me, something about "Embody" just doesn't feel as immersive as it could be. This is an EP created to feel good, but it still feels somewhat restrained in places. A good showing from Hex Cougar, though.

Name Comments Superlative
Ultra Strong, hardwave-influenced bass hits with a twinge of emotion and a very nice break underlying it all Melodic
Eyes A longer, more thoughtful intro that builds to an unexpectedly hard-hitting drop section with a big snare Standout
Oxytocin Prominent melody that sounds almost screechy in practice, perhaps a bit too much for my liking Intense
Still In Love Overstimulation packed into a future garage tune, with shimmering vocal chops and a meaty bassline Upbeat
Dream Of U Screechy, heavy, acidic, and packs a punch — superbly executed explosive finisher for this EP Switchup
