The Fae (Remixes) - YMIR

One of my 100/100 albums got a remix comp! I had high hopes, but unfortunately I feel like a lot of these remixes kind of missed the point of the original songs. But I can't deny that there are some damn good remixes here — a very strong package nonetheless.

  1. The Garden, The Fountain - Jimorrow Remix - Massive first buildup and the vocal chops are grand and completely steal the spotlight. YMIR's incredible vocal performance feels a little subdued but these humongous drops are pretty crazy anyway. (80/100)

  2. Ambrosia - Rival Remix - Rival does a good job with his orchestral atmospheres and he lumps in a slow, crushing drop with a ton of offbeat sound design and minimal percussion. Does some lasery stuff, does some majestic stuff, does some stuff with chops — the whole slow gimmick is very weird but I kind of dig it. Not as strong as the original, but tough stuff. (78/100)

  3. The Fae - Haffenfold Remix - Is this a synthwave remix of the interlude? What a total vibe, love the main synth line and it's a real shift from the original ambient piano-focused tune. Haffenfold, you have my respect. (77/100)

  4. Fatal Faith - Animadrop Remix - A really tense atmosphere to begin, and Animadrop sticks to the original heavy drum n bass ideas, but he slots in a much more intricate break and less full basslines. The build to the second drop is very creative, but a little... suspicious... for want of a better word — doesn't feel like it quite fits in. Also just drags on a little. (68/100)

  5. The Wild Hunt - CODE: PANDORUM Remix - Code: Pandorum has definitely taken over this tune. His deathstep influences have fully corrupted the original, and the whole thing has that unsettling and uncannily heavy dubstep sheen over it. Massive basslines and destructive drops, but whilst the dark tonality is great, it feels slightly disingenuous to the absolute journey the original was. (66/100)

  6. The Tower - Barren Gates Remix - Loses the mindblowing progression the original has, and some of the production Barren Gates has is pretty solid but doesn't quite make up for it. Solid remix, not something I'd come back to, especially not when the original exists in all its brilliance. (60/100)
